The Central Government has introduced a new Para 19 under the “General Notes Regarding Import Policy” of ITC (HS), 2022 Schedule 1 (Import Policy) to impose port-specific restrictions on the import of certain goods from Bangladesh into India, with immediate effect. As per the notification, imports of Ready Made Garments (RMG) from Bangladesh are permitted only through Nhava Sheva and Kolkata seaports and are prohibited via land ports. Additionally, goods such as fruit/fruit-flavoured and carbonated drinks, processed food items (like snacks and confectionery), cotton and cotton yarn waste, plastic and PVC finished goods (excluding specific industrial inputs), and wooden furniture are restricted from entry through land customs stations (LCSs) and integrated check posts (ICPs) in the northeastern states (Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura, Mizoram) and through LCS Changrabandha and Fulbari in West Bengal. These restrictions do not apply to the import of fish, LPG, edible oil, and crushed stone, or to Bangladesh’s exports to Nepal or Bhutan transiting through India.
