Customs:
The CBIC has issued a notification which provides for imposition of a 12% provisional safeguard duty on imports of the following Non-Alloy and Alloy Steel Flat Products:
- Hot Rolled coils, sheets, and plates
- Hot Rolled Plate Mill Plates
- Cold Rolled coils and sheets
- Metallic Coated Steel coils and sheets (including Galvanneal, Zinc/Al-Zn/Zn-Al-Mg coatings)
- Colour Coated coils and sheets
Key highlights are as follows:
Tariff Headings Covered: 7208, 7209, 7210, 7211, 7212, 7225, 7226
Effective Period: 200 days from date of notification (unless amended earlier)
Rate: 12% ad valorem
Exemption: Applicable if import price meets or exceeds the following CIF values:

Country Exclusion: Imports from developing countries are exempted except those originating from China PR and Vietnam.
