The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) has announced the introduction of a new field titled ‘Mode of Export of Services’ in the eBRC (Electronic Bank Realisation Certificate) format, effective from May 1, 2025. This enhancement applies to service export transactions and must be filled in while certifying eBRCs linked to IRMs (Invoice Reference Numbers) through the DGFT portal, either via API integration or bulk upload.

Under the new framework, exporters are required to specify the mode of service delivery as per the GATS classification:

Mode Definition Example Services
Mode 1 Cross-Border Supply (service delivered remotely) IT services, telemedicine, remote consulting
Mode 2 Consumption Abroad (foreign consumer visits India) Medical tourism, foreign students, hospitality
Mode 3 Commercial Presence (Indian entity set up abroad) Overseas bank branches, IT subsidiaries
Mode 4 Presence of Natural Persons (Indian professionals working abroad) Engineers, consultants, doctors on assignment

DGFT has made user manuals available on its website to guide stakeholders through this process and has encouraged feedback via email. Exporters needing support can contact the DGFT Helpdesk or raise a service ticket online.
